Data Credits & Licences

Last updated: 29 April 2026

Plain English. The map data inside BayCast comes from public, openly-licensed sources. We don't own it and we don't sell it. Your subscription pays for the BayCast software tools you use on top of that data. See Terms §2.

Bathymetry — AusSeabed (Geoscience Australia)

The bathymetry data shown in BayCast (depth contours, sea-floor relief, the REEDY PRO HD 3D rendering) is derived from compilations published by AusSeabed — the national seabed mapping coordination programme led by Geoscience Australia.

AusSeabed itself states clearly that this data is not suitable for marine navigation:

"The data sets are not suitable for use in marine navigation or in the creation of navigational products or any other purpose involving safety at sea."

BayCast displays this data for fishing trip planning at home only. For navigation, use approved nautical charts on a proper marine GPS plotter.

Satellite imagery — Copernicus Sentinel

Where satellite imagery is shown, BayCast contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data.

Coastline & base mapping — OpenStreetMap

Coastline outlines, place names, ramps, piers and other base-map features are derived from OpenStreetMap.

Weather & tide

Forecast wind, weather and tide data is sourced from open public weather APIs (including Open-Meteo and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology). It is provided "as is" — see Terms §5.
