Why this site exists

Most weather sites are built for surfers, fishers or beachgoers. Divers need different numbers — clean swell direction, period, water visibility, tide slack at headlands. So we built one.

This is a free 7-day visibility forecast for every open-ocean dive site in Victoria — Port Phillip Heads, Cape Schanck, Phillip Island, Wilsons Prom, Bass Strait wrecks, the Shipwreck Coast, and beyond.

How it works

Every 30 minutes, the site fetches live data from public APIs and caches it for fast loading:

• Wind — interpolated from the Bureau of Meteorology's exposed-coast Automatic Weather Stations.
• Swell, period, direction — Open-Meteo Marine.
• Tide and currents — Open-Meteo Marine + headland slack timing.
• Visibility model — combines all of the above with site exposure, depth, river runoff and 72-hour swell history to estimate underwater viz.

Forecasts are guidance, not gospel — always check conditions on site before entering the water.
